One cassette. A young boy who listened and responded to the Gospel. Now, S* focuses on sharing that hope with others.
A man named Gomer started the Mango Tree Ministries team, an ASM Gospel Partner you’ve helped equip in West Africa. Years ago, he first met a group of young men in the marketplace. Before Gomer even spoke their language, he gave the New Testament to them on cassette tapes. They would play a CD of the Jesus film dubbed in their language, over and over again. One of those young men was S*. He was immediately captivated. That first night, he watched it repeatedly. He continued the next morning, and watched it with friends and family until the CD was too scratched to play further.
Later, Gomer gave S* an SD card with an audio Bible. S* (hands pictured left) listened to it constantly, even at work, though he knew playing Scripture could put his job at risk. But as God’s Word took root, his life began to change. When he left his job and started his own business, S* began following Jesus and growing in the Lord.
Today, he is both a disciple of Jesus and an earnest disciple-maker, sharing God’s Word in audio with others just as Gomer once shared with him. He and several of those same young men are now core leaders with Mango Tree Ministries.
By God’s grace they have distributed over 12,000 audio Bibles in less than 10 years! Their team’s prayer is to multiply the very work that first reached them, equipping others to share God’s Word in their own communities.
Ask God to strengthen S* and the whole team, and to protect them as they boldly travel and bring audio Bibles and discipleship training to many who are spiritually hungry, even amidst growing persecution in the region.
